Our Story

After 25 years in finance and investment recruitment, our founder saw an industry gap as residential living sectors evolved, organisations were searching for talent that could bridge the worlds of capital, construction, and community.

At the same time, his partner brought deep operational experience in Build-to-Rent, property management, and recruitment, working directly with the teams running these assets on the ground.

Together, they created Living Sector Recruitment combining strategic insight from the top down with hands-on operational understanding from the ground up.

That combination means we speak the language of both fund managers and facilities managers, developers and operators, analysts and village managers and can deliver the people who truly make these sectors perform.

Byron Ellis – Founder & Principal

With more than 25 years’ experience connecting exceptional people with purpose-driven organisations, Byron Ellis has built a career on understanding what makes both talent and teams succeed.

After two decades recruiting across government, finance, and corporate services, Byron founded Enable Talent Group to focus on the industries he knows best — those shaping how Australians live, learn, and connect.

That journey has evolved into Living Sectors Recruitment, a specialist firm dedicated to leadership appointments across Build-to-Rent, Student Accommodation, Retirement Living, Affordable Housing, Co-Living, and Specialist Disability Accommodation.

Byron partners with developers, operators, REITs, and investors to identify leaders who not only deliver results but also embody the culture and vision of the organisations they join.

What clients value most is Byron’s depth of sector insight, network-first approach, and straightforward, human style. He has a rare knack for spotting talent before it hits the market and brings both rigour and authenticity to every assignment.

Outside of recruitment, Byron enjoys time with his family and keeps a keen eye on anything sport-related. A proud “pom” and lifelong Leicester City supporter, he often says following them has taught him patience and humility,  they’ve won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and still managed to get relegated, all in the space of a few years. If that’s not character building, nothing is.

Since becoming an Australian citizen in 2013 and having lived in Melbourne since 2009 he’s fully embraced the AFL, backing Hawthorn (though he’s still not entirely sure why everyone randomly yells “BALL!” during a game but joins in anyway).

Andrea Ellis – Founder & Principal

Andrea brings a wealth of industry expertise built over many years working across the Living Sectors.

Having begun her recruitment career in the UK with a blue-chip multinational, Andrea developed strong foundations in professional search and selection before expanding her knowledge across multiple areas of the property industry – including real estate sales, portfolio management, and more recently, Build to Rent (BTR). Over the past three years, she has focused exclusively on BTR projects, supporting developments from inception through to delivery.

A skilled negotiator with a deep understanding of the recruitment process, Andrea has extensive experience in all facets of talent acquisition from search and candidate engagement to salary negotiation and counteroffer management. Her approach ensures the right talent fit for every client and project.

Driven by a genuine passion for both property and people, Andrea is trusted by candidates and organisations alike for her integrity, insight, and commitment to long-term success

Outside of work, Andrea can usually be found enjoying a glass of Chardonnay with friends. A devoted live music fan, she has an eclectic taste that ranges from indie to classic dance music, and she’s rarely without a ticket in hand. If there’s an international artist from the UK in town, chances are Andrea’s already secured a front-row spot.
